Lorenzo Raffaglio
Originally trained as a chef in Milan, Lorenzo Raffaglio makes soulful natural wines on the sun-soaked slopes of Alcamo, in western Sicily, while spending much of the year in Copenhagen. His work is shaped by this unusual double life: a deep connection to food and hospitality, southern Mediterranean terroir, and a northern sense of precision and restraint.
Before starting his own project, Lorenzo spent time learning in the Jura with winemakers such as François Rousset-Martin, an experience that helped shape his understanding of low-intervention wine: patient farming, spontaneous fermentations and the confidence to let wines develop without forcing them into a fixed style. In 2019, he moved to Sicily to begin working with local vineyards and native grapes, especially Catarratto and Nero d’Avola.
His vineyards around Alcamo are farmed organically and look toward the sea, where sunlight, wind and limestone-rich soils all leave their mark on the wines. The climate brings ripeness and aromatic intensity, while the maritime influence helps preserve freshness and balance. Lorenzo works with a light, respectful touch, always aiming to let the character of the grapes and place come through clearly.
In the cellar, intervention is kept to a minimum. Fermentations are spontaneous, the wines are unfiltered and unmanipulated, and production remains tiny, at around 5,000 bottles a year. Depending on the vintage and the grapes, he works with different proportions of direct press and skin contact, bringing texture, brightness and aromatic depth to the wines.
Lorenzo’s bottles are small-scale, personal and full of feeling. They carry the warmth of Sicily without becoming heavy, and the clarity of a cook’s palate without becoming technical. These are honest, expressive wines that sit beautifully between two worlds: Mediterranean generosity and northern elegance.
