Felsen I. 2024
Felsen I is one of Christian Tschida’s most concentrated expressions of Blaufränkisch, made from a single vineyard and a single barrel. The vines, up to 65 years old, grow on iron-rich mica schist and are planted in an unusual double-plant system, with twin pairs of Blaufränkisch vines growing closely side by side.
The intense competition between the vines encourages them to root deeper into the soil, producing smaller, looser bunches with naturally concentrated fruit. The grapes are harvested by hand and macerated for several weeks before gentle pressing and ageing in a large oak barrel.
Deep and concentrated yet remarkably vibrant, with dark berry fruit, smoky and flinty notes, mineral-driven acidity and firm but elegant tannins. Powerful and distinctly vertical in structure, with a long and precise finish. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulphur.
