Milan Nestarec

Milan Nestarec’s story begins in a winemaking village in Moravia, where he was born into a family of growers and learned the work among the vines from an early age. Helping restore old plots, planting new ones and spending his childhood in the vineyards shaped the way he thinks about wine today: not as a product, but as a direct continuation of land, labour and personal freedom.

Milan works only with vineyards farmed without herbicides, pesticides, industrial fertilisers or systemic treatments. He often avoids the usual labels — “authentic”, “natural”, “low-intervention” — because for him this is simply normal winegrowing. The name on the bottle, and the trust behind it, matters more than any buzzword or hashtag.

His farming includes biodynamic practices, but never as a marketing identity. It is a tool, used when the vineyard asks for it, not a costume to wear. What matters most is the living relationship with each place: observing, reacting, experimenting and allowing the vines to express themselves without being pushed into a formula. For Milan, the land is freedom, playground and story all at once.

His range can be seen as two distinct worlds. One is the younger, brighter and more playful line, with colourful labels and a freer visual language. This includes the pét-nats, lighter wines and more experimental bottlings, showing Milan’s humorous, instinctive and energetic side.

The other is the White Label series, which represents the more serious and contemplative face of the winery. These wines are usually aged for longer, gaining more depth, calm structure and quiet complexity, while still preserving the energy, purity and drinkability that define Milan’s style. Together, the two lines show the full scope of his thinking: playful yet precise, free yet deeply intentional.

In recent years, especially since around the 2021 vintage, Milan has also moved toward longer ageing and a more patient cellar rhythm. Neutral Stockinger barrels have become an important part of this evolution, allowing the wines to develop slowly without marked oak influence. This extra time brings more depth, stability and calm focus to the wines, while preserving the energy and drinkability that define his style.

Every detail matters, from the soil to the cellar work, from the label art to the person opening the bottle. Milan’s wines can be bright, cloudy, textural, precise, wild or elegant, but they always carry a clear point of view. They are not trying to fit into a category. They are simply wine, nothing else — and somehow, a whole worldview at the same time.
